(9 August 1939 – 23 October 2020)
MCS was informed by Nicola Dowdeswell, Richard’s widow, of Richard’s passing on the 23rd October. She wrote the following to MCS:
“It is with great sadness that I write to tell you that Richard died peacefully here at home on Friday 23rd October. He had been ill for some time. His bed was in the snug adjacent to the kitchen in the heart of the family where he could still share a laugh with us all. When we moved in twenty-five years ago he vowed that he was going out feet first- and he was true to his word.
I know how much he enjoyed his schooldays at MCS and in recent years he so looked forward to your Old Waynflete invitations.
His friends will remember his booming laugh and his joie-de-vivre. He loved a party and could usually be found regaling one-and-all with his irrepressible humour. We are so sorry that his own send-off will be curtailed, but we will make amends when the curse of Covid is lifted. Do please raise a glass to his memory!”
