MCS was in informed that Michael Harrison died in Taunton on Friday, 23 January 2009, aged 74, after a long illness.
He set up a waste disposal business, Harrison Western, with his wife, with two lorries given to them by his father as a wedding present. The firm later became Haulwaste and joined with English China Clays, with Mike being the Managing Director. The company is now called Viridor (one of the UK’s leading resource and waste management companies) and he was Chairman of their Charitable Trust.
He was a prominent member of the Round Table and Rotary Club and enjoyed organising social activities. He was active in local politics and was also a member of the Historical Society.
He is survived by his younger brother and wife, his two daughters and four grandchildren.
