Jim’s wife Joan provided these words about his life:
After leaving Oxford Jim moved to Doncaster where he worked as a solicitor for the National Coal Board. Jim and his wife Joan then moved to Nottingham where he became deputy Regional solicitor in 1972. In 1974 he became Regional solicitor until 1988. From 1988 to 1990 the British Coal legal department was re-organised and he became Head of Mining Group 1 in the department in Doncaster. Jim retired in 1990 and decided to take up Russian. He gained an honours degree in Russian at Nottingham university and went on to obtain a masters degree.
After that he did voluntary work for the citizens advice bureau. He held several offices the Southwell/ Sees twinning and also the twinning with Csesky Brod town in the Czech Republic. Jim was an avid member of the U3A bird watching group and also the wine tasting. Until the Covid virus stopped meetings he attended Ancient Greek lessons.
Jim died peacefully on September 2nd 2020.
