(16 February 1947 – 3 January 2024)
We have been informed by his brother Brian O’Connor (OW 1967) of the death of his brother Richard O’Connor in Munich, Germany.
We are grateful to Brian for these words about his brother:
Richard John O’Connor passed away on 3 January 2024, after complications with Parkinson’s Disease.
Although offered a place to read Chemistry at Balliol College, Oxford, Richard chose music as his vocation and went on to study the oboe at the Royal College of Music.
After living in Kensington for a few years, he moved with his young family to Germany, playing in several orchestras, ending up playing principal oboe in the Munich Symphony Orchestra. Following his retirement from orchestral work, he took up playing jazz and became very proficient with the saxophone in his leisure time.
Richard leaves a wife and two sons, and will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.
