UK’s First Live Holographic Telepresence at a School Careers Fair
A ground-breaking careers event, Work Like a Human, bringing experts in digital technology and the future of work, will see pupils from five Oxfordshire schools challenging their thinking today (Tuesday 30 April 2019 from 5pm).
Magdalen College School has worked with the founders of Work Like a Human to create a thought-provoking event to ensure that young people are challenged to think about the future in a bolder way.
The potential of augmented reality will be shared through the holographic presence of industry leader Larry O’Reilly live from Canada – a UK school and Oxford first. A live link to Google HQ in San Francisco will also allow teenagers to get a different view of their work-life future in the new global economy. Further sessions will encourage them to think about why future jobs will look different, why their generation will be tackling world challenges and why creativity, collaboration and critical thinking will be valued by employers.
The event will be hosted by MCS. An information session for parents will also take place during the evening chaired by Jonathan Black, Head of Oxford University Careers Service.
Master of MCS, Helen Pike, said:
“MCS is proud to be pioneering ‘Work Like a Human’ as the frame for this year’s Careers Event. As Dame Minouche Shafik, Director of the LSE and Former Governor of the Bank of England put it: ‘In the past, jobs were like muscles. Now they are about brains, but in the future, they will be about the heart.’ We are putting the future flourishing of pupils at the heart of this event to encourage them to think creatively about how to make a positive difference in the world. I am delighted that we are doing this with four of our partner state schools.”

“Tomorrow’s working world is already being transformed by technology, across every sector, therefore, the skills of communication, collaboration, creativity and empathy are going to be needed more than ever, hence, why we are encouraging leaders of the future to Work Like A Human.”
