The Master has announced that the New Building is hereafter to be called ‘The Michael Peagram Building’. Dr Michael Peagram was a pupil at MCS from 1954 to 1962 who went on to study Chemistry at Oxford. He has remained in touch with the school since leaving, and was Chairman of the Governors from 2001 to 2007.

Master Helen Pike said, ‘Michael Peagram’s very substantial support for Magdalen College School over the years has helped the school in numerous ways. He was a pupil here during the Direct Grant era, and understands how significant it is that we can accept pupils from all backgrounds. I am delighted that his recent gifts to MCS include significant provision for bursaries.’

It was during Michael’s time as Chair of Governors that plans for a building that would house the Dining Hall and a number of teaching rooms were drawn up. The decision of the current governors to recognise Dr Peagram’s generosity by re-naming the building is an echo of Michael’s work to raise funds for the building in the early 2000s.
