MCS welcomed OW and Nobel Laureate Sir Tim Hunt to officially open the new Richard Record Sixth Form Centre. Tim Hunt left MCS in 1961 and went on to win the 2001 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on cell division, including his discovery of the protein cyclin.

After cutting the ribbon, he delighted a packed Big School with a talk entitled Seeing the Impossible: Stumbling on the secret of cell division in which he explained and discussed his research.

Throughout his visit he enjoyed meeting students of all ages – from taking selfies with Sixth Formers to being challenged by Junior School Science Club, and even meeting Lily the dog!
