Rob Watson OW, Political Correspondent for the BBC, returned to MCS to give a lecture to the Upper Sixth.
The lecture was aimed at giving the students an insight into how the systems of journalistic institutions such as the BBC function internally, along with a discussion about the contemporary issues facing journalism generally, such as impartiality and the decline in young people digesting news in traditional manners like television and radio.
Mr Watson himself took back much of the feedback from the students on possible ways in which the BBC could attract more young people through differing styles of news presentation.
Considering how many of the Upper Sixth students leaving MCS at the end of this year may be considering a career in journalism, Mr Watson made a point of speaking about the human resources aspect, specifically for the BBC, and offered his hand to any student who wanted a deeper insight into the possibilities in the world of journalism.
Following the lecture, Mr Watson was accompanied to lunch by Dr Panton and a select few of the Upper Sixth students interested in further discussions with him.
