Congratulations to the Magdalen College School (MCS) robotics team who competed in the RoboCon finals at the weekend – winning a “Dragonforged Mastery” prize for technical ingenuity in their robot’s design.
The pupils, from Third to Fifth Form, joined peers from ten schools across Oxfordshire for the contest at Abingdon School – having spent many busy months designing, building, programming and testing their robot.
After an inauspicious start, with their robot “Chairon” failing to even move in the first two rounds, the team pulled together and got it working so well that they finished the preliminary league phase in second place. That fantastic achievement gave them a bye through the first knock-out stage but disaster struck in the semi-final where Chairon became entangled with another team’s robot, leaving them unable to collect enough points to get through to the final.
Despite that disappointment, the Dragonforged Mastery prize was fantastic recognition of their hard work and the culmination of an enjoyable day of robot-battles!
