Magdalen College School features in the 2024 edition of the Independent School Council’s Celebrating Partnerships report, in recognition of the school’s collaboration with numerous organisations to support the training and development of teachers across the education system.

MCS aspires to be a leading centre for teacher professional development, as a place where educators from different sectors can come together to explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The school’s role as a regional hub for the Independent Schools Teacher Induction Panel (ISTIP), as well as partnerships with the National Mathematics and Physics School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) scheme, the Mathematical Association and Oxford, Oxford Brookes and Reading universities, underscore MCS’s commitment to advancing educational practice and boosting the professional growth of teachers at all stages of their careers.

The report was launched at a House of Lords event celebrating thousands of successful collaborative projects between state and independent schools across the UK. Bringing together MPs, peers and representatives from across the education sector, the event highlighted the many ways in which schools from different sectors collaborate to create educational opportunities for all. These include academic support programmes, careers advice and higher education workshops, teacher development initiatives, music and arts projects and sporting partnerships.

"I was delighted to see MCS showcased in this report"

Helen Pike, Master

After the event, the Master said “it was an honour to attend this celebration of all that the independent sector’s partnerships work contributes to our education system. I was particularly delighted to see MCS showcased in the report, too!” while Julie Robinson, Chief Executive of the ISC, added “working in collaboration with state schools and local organisations is part of the very essence of our schools. Cross-sector partnerships play a central role in widening access to educational opportunities, filling gaps in provision and supporting the overall development of students and staff.”
