Yesterday evening, Magdalen College School pupils played a football match on Christ Church Field against our charity partner Asylum Welcome. Over 25 refugees from several different countries represented the Aslyum Weclome team, with a special MCS team organised by football captain Ebo (Upper Sixth).

It was a superb match enjoyed and appreciated by the visiting players and our pupils alike. It was lovely to see so many smiles on faces and all of the participants enjoyed a competitive fixture, played in a friendly manner.

We are delighted to be supporting Asylum Welcome this year. Asylum Welcome has worked with refugees, asylum seekers and immigration detainees in Oxfordshire since 1993, to help them feel welcome, safe and confident. They are a volunteer-based organisation that is held in respect and affection, both locally and nationally. It is the only organisation in Oxfordshire providing a holistic range of integrated advice and support services, backed by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner, which address the complex issues faced by asylum seekers, refugees, and vulnerable migrants – helping them to exercise their rights, access support, and develop and share their talents. The charity supported more than 1,300 people last year, from over 54 nationalities, and relies on fundraising and donations to continue its work.
