On Tuesday 1 February, MCS welcomed this year’s chosen charity, Asylum Welcome, to speak to pupils about their vital work during assembly.
Asylum Welcome offers information, advice and practical support to asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants living in Oxfordshire. They help adults, young people and families to feel safe, respected and understood as members of our diverse community, and MCS is proud to support them during the 2021-22 academic year.
Ellie, Lower Sixth, said of the visit:
“Last Tuesday, we were lucky enough to receive a talk during General Assembly from a representative of Asylum Welcome, our school’s local charity this year. Aiham Al Aswadi (below) who had been an asylum seeker himself at the age of 17, shared his story and the importance of the work that Asylum Welcome does every day to support the large number of refugees residing in Oxford.
We look forward to a year of collaborating to make Oxford a more welcoming and accommodating society for all those seeking political refuge.”
The charity added: “Thank you so much for a very warm welcome today at MCS. We truly appreciated and enjoyed meeting so many wonderful students”.
Asylum Welcome will shortly meet with the Charity Committee to discuss what else pupils can do to support them in the months to come, and we look forward to seeing more from this partnership.
