OW Tilly Farmery (2015) recently returned from Nepal, where she was teaching in a rural school Shree Bhotenamlang.
The school, along with all others in the Helambu region, suffered great damages in the April 2015 earthquake and is in need of much help. Luckily, HELP (Helambu Education and Livelihood Project) were there straight away to kick-start the relief effort, rebuilding schools, providing Temporary Learning Centres, and donating replacement tables, chairs and books. Not only this, but their Scholarship Scheme last year enabled over 70 talented children to go onto higher education and other scholarships aim to keep children in school instead of leaving to start work.
Now back at home, Tilly is continuing to fundraise for the charity that has been helping the school. Its buildings are in need of serious improvements, as it is almost impossible to teach in them during the monsoon season. A donation as small as £5 can provide books or a uniform for one child for a year, and so if you would like to support the project, please visit her Justgiving webpage.
