Athletics
In the Radley relay event the Senior and Inter boys ran extremely well in a combination of the 4x100m and the medley relay – in which 4 runners complete distances of 200m, 400m or 800m to give a grand total distance of 1600m – or a mile. The Senior boys finished an impressive 6th place – with a superb time of 3 minutes 53– only 9 seconds behind Eton’s winning time of 3:44. The Inter boys finished with a total time of 4:30 which was also pleasing.
In the Oxford City Schools event, the Year 7 boys retained the crown as current champions, with both the Junior and Inter boys finishing in second place in their respective categories. Ben Sims won the 1500m, Jack Lipman won the 800m, James Coles won the shotputt, Woody Blakesley Grimes won the discus, Hugo Albert won the javelin, Seb Gardner won the Junior 800m and Matthew Critchley won the javelin.
Good luck to all those competing at Stowe and at Bromsgrove this week.
Golf
A very competitive fixture against St Edward’s at the Oxfordshire Golf Club was held on Tuesday 7th May. Fin Szafnauer, Will Price and Abhir Joshi beat their opponents in a match play format. Edmund Fry ended up playing some competitive golf but lost 2&1.
Sailing
The 2nd VI travelled to Bristol for the Western Region Championships, and beat sides from Eton, Millfield and Sherborne to finish a creditable 7th of 13 teams.
Meanwhile, the 1st VI spent three days in Liverpool sailing against a mixture of university and adult teams. The learning curve was steep, but there were significant successes in the form of wins against sides from Exeter, Manchester and Edinburgh Universities as well as against a guest Australian team. Given the quality of the opposition, Magdalen sailors were delighted to finish 35th of 36 teams.
Rowing
We took 7 crews to the Ball Cup at Dorney Lake on Sunday.
The J14 quad won their heat and took Gold in the final. The J15 A quad came top of their heat and also won Gold in the final (dead heat).
