Record crowds turned out as the ‘dawn chorus’ of the Hymnus Eucharisticus and other madrigals rang out once again from atop Magdalen Tower on May Morning.

Magdalen College Choir, which includes 16 Magdalen College School boys, traditionally sing from the tower at 6am on the 1st of May, heralding the rising sun and the coming of Spring.

May Morning is one of the great Oxford customs, stemming back to the early 16th century. The occasion typically attracts crowds of thousands of people to the High Street below, bringing together Oxford’s communities to enjoy dancing, singing and revelry. This year saw an estimated 27,000 visitors enjoy the celebrations.
