Types of awards
Academic Scholarships are awarded:
- on entry to the Senior School in Year 7 or Year 9
- internally, inrecognition of a pupil’s merit and potential when moving up to Year 9
- on entry to Sixth Form, for both current and incoming pupils.
All-Rounder Awards are made on the basis of the Year 7 and Year 9 admissions procedure, i.e. at point of entry, to pupils of high academic ability who are also likely to make a substantial contribution to the wider life of the school.
Governors’ Presentation Awards are similarly made to a pupil on being offered a place in Year 7 or Year 9 in recognition of talent and potential which might develop into the eventual award of a Scholarship.
Music, Art and Sport Scholarships are available to internal and external candidates at 13+ and 16+ by application.
Drama Scholarships are available at 16+ to internal and external candidates by application.
All Scholarships (including All-Rounder Awards and Governors’ Presentation Awards) are honorary in nature and do not carry a financial benefit. The only exception to this is for Music Scholarships, which include financial recompense to the value of a year’s tuition (30 lessons) in one instrument.

Awards available by age group
In order to maximise financial efficiency and educational benefit, no pupil may hold more than one Scholarship or Exhibition bringing with it financial recompense: the second and any subsequent award will always be Honorary.
