Hot off the heels of World Book Day celebrations, the sweet sound of poetry filled The Studio earlier today, as our annual Junior School Poetry Competition took place.

This event followed a first-rate set of class heats, where pupils across the Junior School gave thoroughly impressive recitations of poems they had learned by heart. Three carefully selected finalists from each class treated an appreciative audience of teachers, parents and peers to a marvellous morning of poetry.

Hats off to Aryan and Atharv who took the J1-2 and J3-4 crowns respectively. Athary gave a fantastic recital of Michael Rosen’s much-loved ‘Dinner Hall’ while Arya read ‘the Aryan Rap’ – a piece he’d written himself.

The Aryan Rap

I was born on Sunday it was second of November,
So much has happened that I can’t remember.
I used to cry: I was always grumpy. Whenever someone helped me, I got so jumpy.
Six months later I began to eat, my favourite diet was chewing on my feet!

When I was 7, I had lots of questions, where do I go, they’re so many directions?
I wanted to do well and not make a mess, I worked pretty hard and I joined MCS!

Back in November, I turned number 9. One thing I know: life’s gonna be fine!

Thank you to all pupils for taking part, we are already looking forward to next year’s competition!
