On Thursday 27 June, Alex Thomas’s The Odyssiad premiered at Oxford Playhouse, as part of Oxford Festival of the Arts 2024. Based on Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, this new and exciting adaptation views the epic stories through the lens of a 1902 archaeological dig in Mycenae and features a rock musical score.
Ahead of the main public performances, there was an exclusive performance for local primary schools across Oxford. Pupils got the chance to learn more about Greek mythology through activity packs supplied beforehand and enjoyed seeing their favourite heroes from the stories portrayed on the stage. The show runs from Thursday 27 June to Saturday 29 June and tickets are available on the Oxford Playhouse website.
