Our second MCS Giving Day on 14 and 15 March has raised over £136,000 to date. Our thanks to 433 donors who made gifts. We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of MCS parents, OWs, Friends, staff and governors, thank you all. The funds raised go towards bursary support for both current and future pupils. Thank you also to the donors who supported us with generous match-funding, the challenges were ambitious and we can report that they were all achieved!

In addition to raising funds for bursaries, MCS Giving Day is all about a celebration of what makes the school so special. This took many forms including 600 free ‘Bish Bill’ cupcakes thanks to our wonderful colleagues in catering, sports activities, computer games, drone simulators, and the MCS Pottery Throw Down where pupils attempted to throw the tallest pot. At our Giving Day Hub we had MCS-themed games, a pom-pom-making party, and the chance to pen a letter in calligraphy with wax seals made by our Chemistry department from a medieval recipe. Meanwhile, a stunning array of cakes, biscuits and breads were on show for the Staff Bake Off. It was tough work for our judges who had to try all the bakes (!) and congratulations to the winners.

The Waynflete Office once again hosted the Pub Quiz in partnership with the Parents’ Association. Our thanks go to Mr McDonald our quiz-writing maestro and to quiz masters Mr Vallance and Ms McClendon who led an enjoyable evening for all who attended. Congratulations to the ‘Lower Sixth Sailors’ parents’ team who were victorious!

The Giving Day is not a time for pupil fundraising, but it seemed appropriate to acknowledge the wider challenges in our local communities in Oxford. The pupils’ Charity Committee set a challenge for Giving Day by collecting food items for Homeless Oxfordshire. There were collection points in each houseroom with a goal of collecting 1,480 items.

Thanks to all the academic and support staff who worked so hard to make Giving Day such a success.

Finally, a thank you must go to the Master and all staff who enthusiastically participated in our ‘Wannabe’ Giving Day video. It certainly captured the spirit of the day! The lyrics, dance moves, and direction by Mr White were marvellous.
