On Monday 20th March, exactly three years after the school closed for lockdown, the school showed that singing is thriving in a spectacular concert in Birmingham Symphony Hall. The theme was the forthcoming Coronation of Charles III and featured all pupils in the Senior School.
18 coaches took the school community up to Birmingham and after some rehearsals during the day, they performed in an evening concert alongside Magdalen College Choir.
The first half showcased the dazzling Symphony Orchestra, performing Dvorak’s Carnival Overture and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Sinfonia joined the stage for the finale to create an orchestra of 140 players performing Walton’s Crown Imperial.
The second half featured Magdalen College Choir who showed why they are one of the top choirs in the country with their impeccable performance of Walton’s Coronation Te Deum. Then the whole school gave rousing performances of Zadok the Priest, Parry’s I was glad and the concert ended with the whole concert hall on their feet singing Jerusalem and The National Anthem.
