Dear OWs and Friends,

In good news announced this week, the MCS Archive became the first school archive in the UK to be awarded accredited status by The National Archive. As we are gradually digitising materials, you can access the Archive through its website. We also now launch a new collection.

The ‘Pandemic Papers’ will bring together the experiences of pupils, staff, OWs and friends of the school during this time of great challenge. We would like to receive your reflections, diary entries, record of events or anything else that you think will allow pupils of the future to understand how everyday life in 2020 was affected by the current pandemic.

The Master’s Address to pupils on the school’s closing day has elicited a huge response from so many of you – thank you. It will rightly take pride of place in this new collection.

To submit your own entries to the Pandemic Papers, you can:
• Email text, image or video (.mp3) files to archive@mcsoxford.org
• Contact the Waynflete Office (waynfleteoffice@mcsoxford.org) to arrange a time to talk through your experience in person over the phone
• Share a particular social media post or tweet of yours directly with the Waynflete Office (waynfleteoffice@mcsoxford.org) @OldWaynfletes
• Post materials to Magdalen College School, Cowley Place, Oxford, OX41DZ (though please hold on to objects until school reopens).

Note that we can restrict access if your submission(s) contain sensitive information, so please indicate whether this is the case on donation.

There is more information about our Pandemic Papers initiative on our website

Letter from the Master to Old Waynfletes
End of Hilary Term, 2020

“As I ran past School during the Christmas holiday, I hoped that the lake which School Field had become would subside in time for the new term. I recall looking forward to Spring, and particularly to Summer, with all that the coming months bring us in this beautiful city.”

The entirety of the Master’s end of term letter can be read here.

A Thought for the Day from the Chaplain, Reverend Wealands Bell

“The night is passed, and the day lies open before us.”

Click here to listen to the next installment in Reverend Wealands Bell’s Thought for the Day as part of the MCS Virtual Chapel series, which will be continuing over the Easter break.

University Challenge

With three matches left in this season’s University Challenge on BBC2, we are delighted to see Alex Gunasekera (OW 2015) still in contention as part of the Corpus, Cambridge team. All here are cheering him on, and special mention to all his chemistry teachers and Mr Mac for imparting knowledge over the years.

Keeping in Touch

After the Easter Break, teaching will continue online for our current pupils.  You can keep in touch with the school on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, as well as the Waynflete Office on our Facebook and Twitter.

We particularly look forward to receiving your notes for the Pandemic Papers. Keep us posted via social media, by telephone (07501 373933) and email: waynfleteoffice@mcsoxford.org .

We are thinking of you, especially those on the front line of this pandemic. Please look after yourself and your communities, and we’ll stay in touch as best we can so that you still feel connected to the school.

Take care,

Susie, Alan, Maddy, Allison and Rob
